One Small Step – The First Moon Landing

– “For You To Enjoy And Share With Friends” –

Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were the first men to walk on the moon way back in 1969. This iconic clip shows the first step and the flag being ‘planted’. The quality of the video is poor compared to today’s standards but in 1969 to have live pictures, all be it delayed by a few seconds, was ground breaking. The quality of the pictures improved with each moon mission as new modulation techniques, transmitters and receivers were developed. In fact, technology has advanced so much over the last forty years, your humble laptop now has hundreds of times more processing power than what was available to the Apollo astronauts.

When Armstrong made his historic statement, it was immediately broadcast by many radio stations worldwide and it is estimated that over 450 million people listened out of a world population at the time of around 3.6 billion.

It is said that apart from his astronaut skills, Neil Armstrong was chosen to be the commander of the first moon mission and the first man to walk on the moon because he had the least ego! He was also given the option of replacing Buzz Aldrin as the Lunar Module pilot but decided not to.
