Mars Opportunity To Complete Extraterrestrial Marathon

The recent limelight has been stolen by ‘Curiosity’ and it might be forgotten that there is another rover, ‘Opportunity’, already active on Mars. ‘Opportunity’ is still going strong after over 8 years. The original project plan hoped that it would travel 600m or so in its lifespan.

However ‘Opportunity’ will soon surpass the 26 miles or so needed for a marathon run here on Earth and there are no plans for it to ends its mission yet. It’s sister rover ‘Spirit’ ceased being operational many years ago.
