Hubble Detects Nine Monster Stars in the Star Cluster R136

Using the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope and its Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3), astronomers have detected nine extremely massive stars in the star cluster R136. The monster stars are ten times the mass of the Sun and together with numerous stars from the same cluster they show 30 million times brighter than our Sun. The R136 star cluster is located in the Tarantula Nebula that is 170,000 light-years away from the Earth.
