The Planet Mercury

An introduction to the nearest planet to the Sun where temperatures vary from 427 degrees Celsius to -183 degrees Celsius. This video includes images and video clips from the Messenger Spacecraft. Messenger is the only spacecraft to have ever  orbited Mercury. It was launched in August 2004 and successfully entered orbit in March 2011.

Although Messenger is the first spacecraft to orbit Mercury, the first spacecraft to send back data on Mercury was Mariner 10.
