Two Merging Galaxies Activate Cycles of Star Formation in ARP 299

Using data from NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory, scientists have captured this spectacular image of two merging galaxies that form ARP 299. The process of merging activates the huge cycle of star formation. As a result, scientists have detected strong sources of X-rays that appear during the formation of binary systems.
