ESO’s new three gigapixel image reveals Eagle and Orion Nebulas in unprecedented detail

Using ESO’s VLT Survey Telescope (VST), scientists have captured a new three gigapixel image that reveals a huge cloud of gas and dust that gives birth to new stars. The cloud contains three nebulas, the famous Eagle and Orion nebula, and their lesser known neighbor, Sharpless 2-54. It is located 7.000 light years away and stretches from the Serpens to Sagittarius constellation.
